Animá Blog Reader Survey – your responses appreciated!
Hello on a SO lovely sunny Winter day, with the last of the snow quickly melting… it’s time to celebrate the second year of the Animá blog! When we started posting we imagined that it was only for the close friends, students and supporters who we otherwise wouldn’t have time to write regularly about our work and lives. It’s certainly filled that purpose, making it possible for us to share details that wouldn’t be possible without a blog, but it’s also surprised us by being subscribed to by people we have never met or talked to, who somehow share with us a sensibility or intent, and find inspiration and community here! You’ve watched as we expanded to include posts of new and never before published essays, recipes from my cookbook in progress, Wolf’s latest artwork, inspirational tales from our 8 yr. old daughter Rhiannon, and all kinds of things!
It admittedly takes many hours each week to keep the posts coming, especially for Kiva and Wolf who do the bulk of it. For this reason and others, we’d sure like your help in making this effort as relevant and helpful to you as possible by answering the following Blog Reader Survey that they wrote up for you. Even if you are too busy or shy to leave comments here the rest of the year, we would LOVE to hear about you now, your preferences and your suggestions!! You can answer all of the questions, or just focus on a few. We sure do appreciate hearing from you, and will do all we can to give all we can!!
-Love, Loba

Being an Ally and Supporter of Anima, and following an almost 20 yr Path of Medicine woman and counselor, also one who works in concert with Mother to grow her food and Honor and learn from what Mother teaches, and of course having a few minutes to stop to write in the Blog, because after reading many of the Blogs by Wolf, Loba, Kiva and our little wise Rhiannon these past months, I feel the tug at my heart to contribute:
I see from Anima and the Blogs, especially as of late, during this turn of the wheel where refelection, resolution and cleansing comes to bear greatly, the blogs help us see LOVE, love within us, love within Nature, a sort of Attitudual (sp?) Love….We as humans often choose that which either confirms/affirms life and love or that which denies it within ourselves, it is a matter of simple choice…Each choice is another stepping stone across the stream of life…and making sure we do NOT step on the same denial stone twice. Denial is confict, to be free of conflict requires ONLY one thing, a goal in life that is not conflicted. trying to change something or someone is a BATTLE, a form of conflict,..living in the past with fear and anger and depression is a battle and Nature and Mother do Not live in the Past, they are about Now, walking the Anima Path is about Now, …Reading these Blogs that are not just ramblings but inner work that has been done and Now shared with us, well, they should be read and re-read, not just during the years time of Resolutions, but thruout the yr, a practice, to remind the Self to stay in Mothers Arms and hear what she teaches, for this I say thank you Anima, for the time and thought and caring you place with each Blog…..You are TRUELY the REAL DEAL…..I feel Blessed for these genuine tidbits you share with us.

Although I have a 40 hour job, my path and purpose is to help people remember how to grow their food and medicine. I first found the site through one of Kiva Rose’s essays on a particular plant medicine. I love those essays, and I plan to get the Medicine Woman book, but I love Jesse Wolf- Hardin’ thoughtful essays most.
I can’t think of a specific way the blog has changed my behavior, but in the last few season’s the Anima writings and Steven Harrod Buhner’s work has spoken the truth I’ve known all my life about direct communication with the living world. Hearing (reading) that truth spoken aloud has made me realize that I’m not broken or crazy for knowing it and now I can speak my truth too. Thanks.
I subscribe in google reader.
I’m less interested in the stories of the center and the canyon, because I live in a very different bio region. I do enjoy the photography, it is a reminder that this is a beauty way full of creativity.
I would like to read more about your environmental restoration work and ways that we can restore and improve the fertility of the Earth. I am interested in gardening and farming in harmony with the wild; I know y’all don’t do much of that but if you did I would love to hear about it.
Dave
I understand the universe to be a friendly place. With Hep C I am dying. I am eager to see what is on the other side of the door they call ‘death’.
While here I want to do what is considered ‘good’.
If you were to ask me for a direction to form your thoughts and program. It would be to aid people in facing their death. I found my own truth, actually it found me, and I am completely satisfied.
I know that preconceived ideas of reality including death and life keep people from finding peace with what they must face.
Teach how the Universe continues and all of us with it. Teach that we owe each other while we are here.
God bless you.

My name is Susan, and I found this blog through my study with anima, which began a few years ago. Rewilding myself and the world around me has been a lifelong passion of mine (even before I could find a name for it, or understand it within myself or others), and studying with anima (and reading this blog) has just been a part of this process. I’m currently taking the Medicine Woman core path program (moving slowly along, but moving nonetheless!), and that, as well as this blog, has helped me to better define what has been moving me forward in life all of these years.
Any topic relating to personal rewilding would be a favorite of mine, although I can honestly say that I practically INHALE anything that comes through here! I have also loved and appreciated Rhiannion’s wise words and joyful expression.
Love you all, and thank you for being a part of my heart!

3. What is your work, path or purpose?
Educator, ecotherapist (helping other consciously experience their deep connection to the Earth for support, guidance, improved relationships, and psychic/emotional/physical healing), non-profit founder, community/grassroots activism based on getting our social systems to reflect the natural systems.
4. How did you find this blog, and what causes you to keep reading (or stay subscribed)?
Found the Anima Center two years ago while researching for Internet for a safe nearby place for a solo retreat… Recognized Wolf’s name as someone with whom I had deeply resonated with (through his writings in the past), met the Canyon family and experienced both a personal retreat as well as workshops, and…learned about the blog and subscribed (I think this is how it happened!)
5. How has this blog influenced how you think or act? Can you describe any particular instances of something you read here affecting the quality, tenor, depth and meaning of your day to day life?
I don’t always have time to read all the articles and posts as they come in, but the ones I do read either strengthen the bond I feel toward the Canyon family, provide an inspiration to live more in the moment, reinforce the changes I am making in my life in order to live more authentically, bring me up to date on what is happening in the Canyon, etc. I am always enriched and supported in some way when I read the posts/articles.
6. Are you a subscriber?
The blog posts come to my email address, so I think so.
7. Which of the categories do you enjoy posts from the most (see the Archives category list on the left side of this blog page)?
I enjoy the range.
8. What topics might you like to see written about from an Animá/nature perspective, that haven’t appeared here already?
I trust that what you inspired to share in the moment is just right. If anything comes up for me in the future, I’ll write and let you know.
9. What else might you like to see more of here? Anything else that you’d like to tell us?
Anonymous significant learnings from your students.
10. Do we have your permission to excerpt from your responses, for printing on the blog (by first name only, without your address)?
I’m in a rush so doubt anything is profound enough to quote, but of course.

Siobhan’s Reader Survey Response
My life circumstances have led me to live in the DC area which is way too big with too many people for my taste, though coming here was a conscious choice. Its difficult to get out a wild area very often and it helps to read about such a glorious canyon full of wildness several times a week. I love the photography too.
Your posts mirror my own life long pursuit of wholeness and it is great to know there are kindred spirits in the southwest. I love Mama Earth and enjoy hearing about your lives as you struggle to live in harmony with her.

I found your site around the time I planned to revisit a place I knew I had lived in the past. I dreamed a place and was blown away when I saw your canyon as it resonated with all I felt and saw in my dream. So thankful you are there to caretake and love her.
We did end up buying some land in New Mexico and visit from Hawaii when we can. My heart stays there year round. I love the pictures you share , as it brings into my home the beauty of the area and your thoughts as you tend it.
My day job is at a Natural Food Store so I get to work with people trying to improve and maintain their health, I love the exchange of energy of dealing with other people I meet and helping them have a better day for it. On this note , in our current world situation, I find our business improving as I think people who never used to venture into a Health Food Store are doing so, taking back some of the responsibility of caring for their own health and life. Your attention to this is vital and I love that.
My real passion is living a life in the here and now and connecting with others like you who are doing it and empowering woman here to come together and share that which makes us whole and real.
I’m a mosaic artist, love working with rocks, crystals, and earth centered medicine. We are also active in the music scene here, gathering to dance and celebrate life. Active in our local PowWow, yes we have one in Hilo, Hawaii!!
Your sharing gives me hope that more people can learn to live close to our source without so much to sustain us. In emergencies I see people come unglued when they dont have electricity overnight. We dont live in the Waikiki Hawaii so many think of but the rural area of a rainforest on lava rock roads, with catchment water. I feel all we can do to be self sufficient will help us face the future whatever the state of the world or economy.
You can of course use any part of this , I could not download survey. I mostly just read your emails, have dial up and slow old computer so dont spend alot of time in front of it but so thankful for the world this technology provides us with, connecting people and ideas. Thank you for sharing yours, Aloha, Karin

While it seems like I have you on speed dial although you have no phones our communication is great- If I have no e-mail with questions on my in box from you guys then I rush to the favorites list to get in to the blog. As you know I have a job/business that although exciting is stressful, while this new environment for me and my family has been slower over the last 2 1/2 years from our life in San Diego after visiting the center I have made the realization that it is not slow enough. Even though I am more, how did you put it Wolf? more mechanical than artistic… I do want to take the time to realize the art in life. When I can have the day to immerse myself every morning in the environment in which you live, or as close as my wife will allow, will I be able to really get back to the heart of worship. Has this even addressed the blog topic???
I would like to see more how tos (the engineer in me)…the pics are always a favorite (don’t know how you trained nature to pose so well)…perhaps links from the blog to recent paper write ups or mags you’ve done, upcoming events in Reserve, stuff your trying to sell on Ebay that we could buy to help etc…
Can’t wait to get out there again, hopefully bring my girls and stay a bit, let me know about that car and what you want me to do out here…

I am 41 year old Housewife, grandmother, gardener, and hopefully a medicine woman one of these days. Right now I am taking a class with Rosemary Gladstar correspondence course. I should of been done with it but to much life happen this last year. This summer I found the add in SageWoman for your blog. I liked what I read about Anima and Kiva’s The Medicine Woman’s roots. Your blogs have influenced me with rewilding from Wolf, the cooking on a wood stove and recipes from Loba, the herb writtings from Kiva and the writtings from Rhiannon as she goes through life. As I home schooled my children. I like what you write about and hopefully I will one of the days meet you in person and take one lf your classes. I live in Arizona so you are close by.
Thank you
Jane
I’m a homeschooling mom and medicine woman (many threads bundled into that!). My purpose is to live a life of magical nature and welcome others into their own unique “dream-of-the-Earth” ecology. I recently discovered Anima via Kiva Rose’s articles/interview on HerbMentor.com. I love all the postiings–both here and on Kiva’s The Medicine Woman’s roots. I read them for the beautiful, thoughtful, wild writings on the nature of your place, herbal medicine, your teachings and practices, your perspective in just how you live your lives sustainably and with heart in the Canyon, and because I feel like you are kindred spirits–folks I’d like to have in my tribe! Yesterday, I read the Magic Of Cooking post and was reminded of all I loved about living with a woodstove as my main source of doing — heat, cooking, contemplation, drying clothes, heart-fire … Today, I’m entranced by Wolf’s post on the Anima, Spirituality, and Religion (gosh, I’ve got to figure out how to type the accent on the ‘a’!). When I read your posts I’m filled with courage to be starting afresh in a new place of incredible wilderness and beauty. I am reminded that I’m here largely to deepen further into natural mystery, and the grief of leaving a place and ‘village’ I dearly loved becomes bearable again. So, I find healing in your ‘web space’ as well! I’m reminded that we are all connected in a web and never alone, and that the natural world is filled with voices and song, ancient and new. I find courage here to pull on my medicine woman boots and trust how far I’ve come, and that I’m being led to all I need to experience and know to be able to effectively assist others on their healing journeys.
I’m not a subscriber, but I have a link that lets me know when new posts go up. Regarding posts: I’d love to hear about some of your daily (moment-to-moment, seasonal, healing, whatever!) practices, if you’d care to share them (maybe you already have!).

My Path is unique, as I think many mystics are….I am 53 years old, part Cherokee and part Irish. I also have a “Christ Consciousness” in which I believe In Jesus and His works and teachings. I have combined all into a Path of Green Witchery. I have a close connection to Mother Earth and all Her spirits….as I listen to the ancestors of which I am blessed to live among on ancestral land. I found this blog while I was visiting the website of Anima Center. I have been interested in all Jesse & family write since I first bought Oberon Zell Ravenheart’s “Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard” and read the quotes Oberon posted. From there I got Jessse’s “Gaia Eros” and a CD. I was so impressed, I had never heard or read in words exactly much of what I had felt all my life. I feel a deep connection to Anima and all of you. I wish I could visit but have a husband, 4 cats and a puppy that are my ‘family’ here. I am an avid gardener and herbalist and in spring my work outside begins anew. During the winter months I work on composting and preparing flower gardens, herb garden and a place for my veggies. I just love the updates and I feel a part of me is there with you all. Your descriptions are extroadinary so it is easy for me to meditate abd truly feel the experience. I teach and learn on my own websites and I love quoting Jesse’s works and have many new people looking up Anima and reading about all of you and your wonderful work. I am a subscriber to this blog and love it! My favorite is; Jesse’s eassys & tales, however I enjoy all I read. I would love to read more on how to connect to Nature Spirits and more on the wild animals of your area. I most enjoy teaching and learning, for I believe our being open to learning a deeper connection to Mother Earth is vital for her, as well as our own, survival. I believe everything & everyone is interconnected.
Thank you so much for making this blog available for us all and yes you may use what I have written. It would be an honor.
Walk in Harmony,
Perizada
Christina
Hi there:
I’ve been meaning to fill this out for ages – just got to it.
Your name: Christina
What is your work, path or purpose? In the material world, I work at UNM’s School of Medicine, in the Human Patient Simulation lab. I hang with manikins all day – it’s actually quite cool. But that’s my income-work. In my personal life, I’m an herbalist, a shamanic practitioner, and a Pipe Carrier in the Native American Tradition (Lakota, Cherokee, and Ojibwa). My purpose, and the declared purpose of The Feathered Serpent Lodge (my teaching lodge here in Albuquerque), is the education and enlightenment of all peoples through intimate spiritual connection to the Mother Earth and honoring of the Sacred Feminine in each of us.
How did you find this blog, and what causes you to keep reading (or stay subscribed)? I don’t remember how I found your blog/web site, but the exquisite posts I get from you – all of you – are what keep me coming back.
How has this blog influenced how you think or act? Can you describe any particular instances of something you read here affecting the quality, tenor, depth and meaning of your day to day life? Jesse’s posts on wild/wilding/re-wilding spoke to something very deep in me – I heard a psychic echo the first time I read one of his pieces – and I’ve been chewing on that subject ever since. I’m an audial person, it’s all about how things sound (rather than look) for me, and it’s difficult for me sometimes to advance my thinking on a particular subject until I’ve found a hook to hang it all on. Jesse’s writing often provides that hook. I can only describe it as “nibbling around the edges of a subject” – the way you eat hot tomato soup, you know? taking little sips from around the outside of the bowl? – and then I’ll read something of his (and it’s not just him, really, you all do it in different ways) and suddenly I’m right in the hot middle and it’s all clear and I can proceed.
Are you a subscriber? Yes.
Which of the categories do you enjoy posts from the most (see the Archives category list on the left side of this blog page)? I’m interested in virtually everything you communicate – life in the Canyon is particularly appealing, and I LOVE the pictures. You are living the life I began dreaming of for myself back in my 20s.
What topics might you like to see written about from an Animá/nature perspective, that haven’t appeared here already? Nothing that I can think of.
What else might you like to see more of here? Anything else that you’d like to tell us? Just that I think you are grand, and have the greatest respect and admiration for you and what you’re doing “out there.” I wish I could support you more regularly (I work at UNM, and you know what that means in terms of salary…), and I hope one day to visit in person. “Seven rivers to cross…”
Do we have your permission to excerpt from your responses, for printing on the blog (by first name only, without your address)? Yes – go ahead.

3. What is your work, path or purpose? I am a mother of many, three that I have given birth to. I am a healer and feel very drawn to the Medicine Woman. My purpose, this I am currently learning about. I earn an income as a preschool teacher. I love learning with and from the children.
4. How did you find this blog, and what causes you to keep reading (or stay subscribed)? I first read about you in Sage Woman, which I happened upon at the Barnes and Noble two issues ago. I was so drawn in by Kiva’s writings; I felt she was writing to and about me. I can’t seem to get enough, I just keep reading. I am going through the archives, I have read all of Rhiannon’s posts, I have read the history and I still keep reading.
5. How has this blog influenced how you think or act? I feel a deep peace since I have been reading. Strangely enough the writings made me uncomfortable at first, but still I kept on reading. I have been searching and searching all my life, for what I could not have verbalized to you. But I feel a peace amidst the pain and chaos. I am learning to open my eyes, I am learning that pain is not ‘bad’. I a learning that to heal another does not mean you have to heal yourself first. I am learning more to respect myself , the earth, and others. Can you describe any particular instances of something you read here affecting the quality, tenor, depth and meaning of your day to day life? There was a recent article I printed out on “Hard Choices…” It was very painful to read, but I felt I needed to print it out. There is something I must learn here…something that is calling to me deeply.
6. Are you a subscriber? Yes
7. Which of the categories do you enjoy posts from the most (see the Archives category list on the left side of this blog page)? So far I am working my way through the archives. Rhiannon’s writings were wonderful, and I could not stop reading about the history of the Center. I enjoy Kiva’s writings very much also.
8. What topics might you like to see written about from an Animá/nature perspective, that haven’t appeared here already? I really enjoy reading about the canyon and I love the pictures.
9. What else might you like to see more of here? I am hungry for it all, so at this point whatever you post, I am going to read. Anything else that you’d like to tell us? Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I have been in such pain for so long and for the first time in a long time I feel like I am waking up.
